In the town museum Osterode, you learn about everything that is well worth knowing around the Osterode's citizens in the Middle Ages, the function of the guildhall as well as the general market and battle events in the past.

The museum in the Ritterhaus at the Rollberg is housed in a wonderful imposing middle-class house.

The name gave a knight-like figure that is affixed at the façade of the building. The museum itself was established in 1936 and has since been the starting point for the history of Osterode and the south Harz.

The section 'Town' is situated on the ground floor. It addresses the development and the settling at the end of the 10th-century. Important are the objects deposited with the corpse in the grave of the last duke of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen. His family ruled until 1596.
The section 'Guildhall' shows the political life as well as administration and jurisdiction of that time.

In the section 'Citizens' House', items of daily life are on display as well as the health and education system.

Trade and coinage are described in the section 'Economy'.

The dark chapter 'Wehr and Wacht' (armed forces and watch) documents the battle and fire events of the past.

The since 1952 existing partnership with East Prussia is the reason for the section 'Local Room Osterode/'East Prussia'.
Here habits and culture are shown.

The middle section is a model of the town Osterode, as it was around 1860. One can reconstruct vividly the change to the present.
